SCHIARAZULA MARAZULA DANSES ITALIENNES SOUTH KOREA AWARD RECOMMANDE BY CLASSICA 4 DIAPASONS
Christian Mendoze, head of the Musica Antiqua Ensemble, conducts with skill, bolstering the rhythms of a growing instrumental body, taking us in turn to the court of a great lord and to a village festival. The use made here of the instruments and their interventions (in particular the cromorns and the dulcian) makes the conductor a true colourist, reflecting both the spirit of the dance and that of an ensemble from the Italian Renaissance. A perfect balance of science and improvisation makes this disc a remarkable milestone in every respect, transporting us for a few moments in the footsteps of the dancers...

GASPAR SANZ SPANISH DANCES FROM THE 17TH CENTURY
FNAC SELECTION RADIO CLASSIQUE (BEST RECORD OF THE YEAR)
This is a disc that will propel them to the forefront of French baroque ensembles! They are called Musica Antiqua Provence, and their conductor (who is also a flutist), Christian Mendoze, manages to strike an extraordinary balance between energy and poetry. This colourful album is dedicated to 17th-century Spanish dances, penned by Gaspar Sanz, a native of Zaragoza. Much has been said about the Spanish court being austere and harsh, but the people knew how to revel in dance and song. It is the exuberant folklore, this feast of baroque songs and dances, where the spirit of buffoonery combines with the earthiness of tambourines, bells and castanets that come to life here. Spectacular!
