Dances of Mittel Europa
This highly original programme of virtuoso and nostalgic music will feature a selection of works from ‘Mittel Europa’ (literally ‘Middle Europe’) that inspired many German and Austrian musicians, such as Telemann, Haydn, Dvorak and many others. These works are often dance music such as could be heard and seen in villages during festivals and ceremonies. * Bohemia (former Czechoslovakia): dances from the 17th and 18th centuries * Russia: folk dances and music * Poland: polonaises and mazurkas * Romania: l'alouette, hora staccato, roumanische hora * Hungary: Verbunkos dances (recruitment) The Musica Antiqua Mediterranea ensemble is probably one of the only musical groups capable of presenting such a wide and varied repertoire: Baroque and classical music (from Monteverdi to Beethoven), traditional music (from Spain to the Danube), sacred music and lyrical music. In 2026, it will celebrate 45 years of existence, during which time it has given around 2,000 concerts in Europe and recorded some 60 albums and compilations, including several Grands Prix du Disque awards.
