Franck Masquelier now devotes much of his time to developing his own artistic projects, sharing his vitality, notably with the Adonis, Furioso and Panama Trios, the Laborintus Ensemble and the Aria Quintet of Paris, all of which he co-founded. He also performs with organists Monica Melcova (Slovakia) and Claude Nadeau, and harpists Hélène Breschand, Delphine Benhamou, Iole Cerri (Italy), Isabelle Frouvelle and Marielle Nordmann. He is the artistic director of the Musiques en Vercors Festival (Isère) and the Villard-de-Lans Summer Music Academy, which he founded in 1991. Born in Paris, he was unanimously awarded a Gold Medal in Flute and a Prize of Excellence at the Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison. He also received a Prize for Advanced Studies at the Conservatoire National de Région de Saint-Maur, before entering the Royal Conservatoire of Music in Brussels, where he was awarded the Higher Diploma. Finally, he perfected his skills with William Bennet at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg. He also won second prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach (France), tied for first place at the International Competition in Martigny (Switzerland) and was a laureate of the Cziffra and Menuhin Foundations. He has performed in numerous concerts with prestigious national and international orchestras under the baton of great conductors such as Sylvain Cambreling, Jean-Marc Cochereau, Gérard Devos, Thierry Fischer, Emmanuel Krivine, Patrick Fournillier, Pascal Rophé and Pierre Roullier. His eclecticism has led him, as a soloist or with the Ensemble Laborintus, to inspire many composers, whose works he has premiered and recorded. His discography includes more than fifteen recordings with his ensembles. His latest album, dedicated to Mozart with Belgian flutist Marc Grauwels, will be released on the Calliope label in 2023. He has also made recordings for France Musique, Radio Suisse Romande, and RTBF.
Alongside his activities as a performer, Franck Masquelier is also developing his skills as an arranger and composer. His catalogue already includes more than sixty works for a wide variety of ensembles, as well as nearly five hundred arrangements and orchestrations. Around seventy scores have now been published (Ed. Robert Martin, Ed. Da Camera, Ed. Sempre Piu, Ed. Pierre Lafitan, Ed. François Dhalmann). A renowned teacher, holder of a State Diploma and Certificate of Aptitude, he is a professor of flute and chamber music at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Communal Agréé de Rungis (94), as well as at the Académie Internationale de Colombes (92).
Since January 2018, Franck Masquelier has also been President of La Traversière-Association Française de la flûte, which publishes a magazine and organises events including the International Flute Convention in Paris every four years. In his career as in his performances, Franck Masquelier remains true to his personality... which is not the least of his qualities. Invitation au voyage takes you on an hour-long journey through French music and literature, back to the time of the Impressionists, when the piano, flute and spoken word responded to each other. This journey between two centuries takes you through the most beautiful pages of Verlaine and Fauré, Baudelaire, Debussy, Ravel and Rimbaud, not to mention escapades in the company of Caplet, Duparc and Mel Bonis. Works chosen by the three artists to impress you.
